"Home is Where the Heart is" donates CI$10,000 to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society SEPTEMBER DONATION

Through this programme CIREBA has committed to donating CI$10,000 a month to various charities and organizations until the end of 2020.

CIREBA is proud to announce that the Cayman Islands Cancer Society received the most votes from the CIREBA members during the month of September. A cheque for CI $10,000 was presented by Steve Parson (CIREBA board member and broker) to Elna Bush on behalf of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society on September 16th 2020 .

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society is a non-profit charitable organisation established in 1995.  It receives no assistance from the government and is entirely reliant on donations from individuals and corporations.

The mission of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society is to increase awareness amongst the people of the Cayman Islands of cancer as a major health concern, to initiate positive change in all areas relating to cancer, to prevent the development of cancer and to counsel and support cancer patients and their families.

“This generous donation will be used in support of our financial aid cancer patients in need. Although the world basically stopped for the Covid pandemic, cancer didn’t take a holiday so the need for our services continued. In fact, during the period we were unable to fundraise, the need for our financial aid and other services increased, as hard working people in our community lost their jobs which lead to lost income and lost insurance.”
-Jennifer Weber

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society foresees a reduction in the incidence of cancer cases and an improvement in the quality of life of all those touched by cancer in the Cayman Islands through: focusing on education and prevention programmes for children and adults, providing financial and counseling support to cancer patients and their families, facilitating a cancer survivor’s network, reviewing matters of interest to the Society and initiating and lobbying for relevant changes through legislation and other means and enhancing cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment services.

“Times have never been easy for cancer patients who have few financial resources, but times became exponentially more difficult when people who were mid-treatment or newly diagnosed, suddenly found themselves unable to continue. This $10,000 donation could be the money used to pay for treatments not covered by insurance or to help pay for someone’s PET scan, operation, chemo, rent, utilities, food etc.  The need is great because cancer never stops and neither do we.”
- Jennifer Weber
