Buying a first home is one of life's biggest achievements. It's an exciting milestone, but for many first-time buyers, it can also be financially demanding. While saving for a deposit is often the primary focus, there are many additional costs involved in purchasing a property, from legal fees and banking expenses to other transaction costs that can quickly add up. Recognising these challenges CIREBA introduced its First-Time Caymanian Homebuyers Grant Programme – to help make homeownership more accessible for eligible Caymanians by easing some of the financial pressures that come with buying a first home. Recently, one grant recipient chose to share her experience and explain what the programme meant to her and her family. "Receiving the grant will make a significant difference as I begin this new chapter of my life. Purchasing my first home is a major milestone, but it also comes with many associated costs beyond the purchase price itself." Like many first-time buyers, she explained that while reaching the point of purchasing a home was an achievement in itself, the costs involved after an offer is accepted can be overwhelming. "The grant will help with some of the legal, banking and other transaction costs involved in buying a property, allowing me to establish my home on a stronger financial footing as I settle into homeownership." For her, however, the significance of buying a home goes far beyond finances. "This home represents far more than a financial investment. It provides the opportunity to create a safe, stable and secure environment for my daughter and me, giving us a place to build our future together." Her story reflects something that many homeowners understand. A home is more than bricks and mortar. It's a place where children grow up, memories are made and families build stability for the future. Knowing that some of the upfront costs are being eased has allowed her to focus on what matters most. "Knowing that I can focus on making our house a home, rather than being overwhelmed by the upfront costs of purchasing a property, is invaluable." As she looks ahead to this new chapter, she hopes other Caymanians will benefit from the programme in the same way. "As a first-time Caymanian homeowner, I am incredibly grateful for this initiative and the support it provides. The grant helps make homeownership more accessible, giving families like mine the confidence to take this important step. I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to benefit from this programme and the positive impact it will have on our future." Stories like this are at the heart of the CIREBA First-Time Caymanian Homebuyers Grant Programme. Behind every successful application is an individual or family taking an important step towards long-term stability and homeownership. The programme provides eligible first-time Caymanian buyers with grants of up to CI$5,000 to help with qualifying closing costs, complementing the Cayman Islands Government's existing stamp duty concession for eligible purchasers.
